Know Before You Go

History of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC)

Did you know that Las Vegas is the only city that was originally developed for holding events? Constructing the large event center helped boost this development and continues to bring in large groups of visitors to the area.

On April 29, 1959, the Las Vegas Convention Center officially opened with a 20,340 square-foot rotunda, 18 meeting rooms and a 90,000 square-foot exhibit hall. The World Trade Center Las Vegas is a partnership between the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) and the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, most known for producing CES® each year. In addition to helping brand Southern Nevada as a top tourism and convention destination, the partnership has helped to create an international presence and draw in more visitors to Las Vegas.
